Meet Tommy Veanud, the dynamic DJ and producer who transformed Lana Del Rey’s pop classic ‘Summertime Sadness’ into a new Afro-house cut ready for global dance floors and festivals.
DJ and electronic producer Tommy Veanud has released a brand new cover of Lana Del Rey’s iconic track ‘Summertime Sadness’. Reimagined with Afro-inspired percussion, melodic synths, and a newly recorded male vocal, the track is the latest addition to his growing catalogue of dancefloor-focused productions. The music video has recently been unveiled, bringing the track’s vibrant energy to life visually. Combining emotive melodies with Afro House rhythms, Tommy Veanud’s version blends heartfelt songwriting with the energy of clubs and major festivals.
“Summertime Sadness” is an amazing track! How do you think this release reflects your current artistic sound and vision?
Thank you! This track represents the quality and standard that today’s music market demands, and it makes me feel that I’ve truly grown as an artist over the past few years. There’s so much great music coming out today, competition is insane, and maybe that’s why “Summertime Sadness” hasn’t yet become the big one that’s playing from every speaker. But all the best events are ahead, and who knows, maybe this interview will be the starting point of its success.
What first interested you in music, and how did you get started?
Like many others, as a kid, I didn’t get enough attention from my parents, so I was left alone with my thoughts. Every time I listened to The Prodigy and other legends of that time, I imagined myself performing on stage. And now, here I am. Right now, I’m answering your questions from Amsterdam, where I have a few showcases during ADE, and that means it was all worth it.
Tell us your current favourite track and why?
Not a track, a masterpiece! The entire “Four Seasons” cycle by maestro Antonio Vivaldi, which I first heard on vinyl as a child. It’s more than music; it’s a musical encyclopedia.
Talk to us about Ibiza! What are your favourite memories and clubs on the Island, and why?
My memories of Ibiza are mixed because my first, and only, visit happened right when major global events began, which affected the ability to travel. I had scheduled shows at the legendary Café Del Mar and Dunes, but I couldn’t pull myself together for a whole week after the news. It was a tough time, with no clarity about tomorrow. But I believe my best impressions of your island are ahead.
What does Ibiza mean to you?
Ibiza is the only place on Earth where everyone can afford to go a little crazy for a while. And you guys know that better than anyone, haha.
Are there any lesser-known locations in Ibiza, like restaurants or bars, etc, that you could talk to us about?
I only remember your incredible doner kebab! I can’t recall the name, but I’m sure everyone reading this can already taste that kebab just thinking about it. And I’m also a huge fan of your sangria. Ibiza’s sangria is the best in the world.
If you could collaborate with any legendary artist, who would it be and why?
The musical style of my Tommy Veanud project doesn’t quite match his sound, but for me, the most iconic figure in the music industry right now is Armin van Buuren. I don’t know him personally, but I’m convinced he’s the true father of electronic music, the one everyone has been watching and following for the past 30 years.
What is your favourite ever memory of playing a gig?
My best performance was in India, at Mirage Club! It’s the only time I, with all my high standards for myself, was truly satisfied with what I delivered in a 90-minute set. That moment proved to me that I’m truly special, and I just need to keep doing my thing so you can all see it too.
How do you approach building industry relationships through networking, consistency, and character?
Throughout my 15-year career, my strategy has always been simple: give first, then receive. Win-win is the most effective strategy in the world.
Is there anyone specific you’d like to thank for helping you evolve, and why?
Yes, Fil, my partner and the director of our agency, One Tribe Artists, who’s actually helping me prepare this interview right now. By the way, in the past, he was a warm-up DJ for the legendary Scooter twice!
